A choice of venues for fiesta-goers

This weekend sees fiestas in both Es Castell and Fornells

A weekend packed with activities is on offer to everyone who enjoys all the hype, atmosphere and excitement which accompanies the local festivities

Two fiestas take place this weekend - in the villages of Es Castell and Fornells, the main events in each being as follows:

Es Castell

Today:

2200 hrs. Andalusian Night with Sevillanas and Flamenco in the Explanada.

Friday, 23rd:

1900 hrs. Children´s games and entertainment with the clown Miquelet.

2000 hrs. Mediterranean songs from ŒSa Rosa des Vents´ in the Pati des Mercat.

As dark falls, the ŒCorrefocs´ will run through the streets with fireworks. Anyone wishing to participate should wear hard-wearing cotton clothing and hats.

Saturday 24th:

1000 hrs. The first notes of the Œfabiol´ announce the start of the fiestas.

1600 hrs. Permission will be be given by the Mayoress to begin the fiestas and the cavalcade will form.

1900 hrs. Mass at El Roser Church.

2000 hrs. ŒJaleo´ in front of the Town Hall.

2200 hrs. Musical performance by the groups Guateque Maravillas and Polaris.

Friday 25th:

0800 Reveille with Es Migjorn Band, giants and carnival figures.

0815 hrs. The cavalcade gathers once again.

1100 hrs. Mass for the horsemen.

1200 hrs. The authorities and procession return to the Town Hall for the Jaleo at 1300 hrs.

2000 hrs. ŒCorregudes´ (horse races) in Carrer des Port.

2100 hrs. The final notes of the fabiol and an exhibition by majorettes in front of the Town Hall.

2230 hrs. Musical performance by the groups Polaris and Guateque Maravillas.

2400 hrs. Grand Firework Display from the Isla Plana.

Saturday 26th:

1700 hrs. Regattas, competitions and games in Cales Fonts.

2130 hrs. Music from The Four Tops followed by typical Mediterranean songs from The Cremats.

2400 hrs. The fiestas close with an explosion of noise and light from Lazareto Island.

Fornells:

Today:

1900 hrs. Street party in Calle Tramuntana with ŒDonkey Jaleo´, with refreshments on sale and music from the Fornells Bugle and Drum Band followed by the group Insòlitis.

Friday, 23rd:

2100 hrs. Open-air supper in Calle del Rosari, everyone shares items they have brought to grill - don´t forget to take plates and cutlery.

2130 hrs. Concert in the Plaça de s´Algaret by the Agrupació Musical Inquera.

2300 hrs. Open-air dance in the Plaça des Forn with music from Polaris and Insòlits.

Saturday 24th:

1630 hrs. The fiestas start with a peal of bells and burst of rockets, followed by a parade around the village by the Fornells Bugle and Drum Band and carnival figures.

1700 hrs. Permission is given to begin the festivities and the first notes of the fabiol are heard. The cavalcade gradually forms whilst the Inquera Band parades through the streets.

By approx. 1830 hrs. the riders will have gathered and will make their way to the Social Hall where the Mayor will hand over the baton of authority. The cavalcade will then tour the village before making its way to the Fornells Parish Church for Compline at 1900 hrs.

Following Mass, the Jaleo will take place to musical accompaniament from the Inquera Band.

Once this has finished the riders will be offered refreshments in the rectory and, at the same time, there will be a reception in the Social Hall for authorities and guests.

2400 hrs. Open-air dance in the Plaça des Forn to music from Guateke Maravillas and Feeling.

Sunday 25th:

0900 hrs. Reveille with the Inquera Band.

0930 hrs. The fabiol player starts to collect together the cavalcade.

1100 hrs. Mass in the Sant Antoni Church.

This will be followed by the Jaleo in the Plaça de s´Algaret, with music from the Inquera Band.

There will then be a reception to which everyone is invited.

2030 hrs. Dance and concert with the groups Arrels de Sant Joan and Els Cremats.

2330 hrs. Open-air dance in the Plaça des Forn with the groups Guateke Maravillas and Polaris

Monday 26th:

1700 hrs. Children´s regattas followed at 1800 hrs. by games in the Plaça des Forn.

2200 hrs. Water Firework display.

2330 hrs. Open-air dance with Huracan and Feeling to mark the end of the fiestas.
