Hazel Martin.Sant LluísRarely has Menorca experienced a more prestigious and talented trio of musicians than those who performed last Sunday and Monday. Two benefit concerts were held to raise funds for David Martin´s Disabled Romanian Orphans project and also for Victims of Terrorism. Following a conversation with Father Silvino of the Salesian College in Ciutadella, these two performances were arranged.
The Catalan pianist Melani Mestre, Russian born cellist Svetlana Tovstukah and Italian flautist Francesca Canali provided world-class entertainment to packed houses in the Patio Juan Bosco, Salesian College of Ciutadella on Sunday evening and in the Parish Church of Sant Lluís the following night. Both programmes were varied in content and the performances were riveting, resulting in a standing ovation at both venues. These three musicians delighted their audiences with polished performances and each displayed their love for, and dominance of, their chosen instrument.
The duo of Melani and Svetlana has been performing for ten years and they have a long-standing association with Francesca. From the rapport they displayed it was obvious that these three young people often play together. As well as being international prize-winners all three have played with the Romanian State Orchestra so were delighted to have the opportunity to help such a worthwhile cause; how fortunate that they were able to fit these concerts in to their very busy schedules.
Congratulations to the Unión de Antiguos Alumnos de Ciutadella for arranging such stunning concerts and to the various organisations that helped stage the events: Consell Insular de Menorca, Ayuntamiento de Ciutadella, Caixa Rural, Comunidad Salesiana, Seminario "El Iris", Parroquia de Sant Lluís, Ayuntamiento de Sant Lluís. The organisers expressed their gratitude to all who attended for their most generous donations.
