Christine Watterson.MaóThe international property consultancy Christie announced last week that an agreement had been reached for the sale of the ten hotels owned by the Acorn Group in the Balearic Islands to Hoteles Globales for the sum of 130 million euros. The portofolio includes the "Almirante Farragut" in Ciutadella, the largest hotel in Menorca, with 493 bedrooms.
This purchase makes Hoteles Globales the biggest hotel-owner on the island, ahead of Sol Melià which owns five.
The sales campaign for Acorn´s property in the Balearics started on 19th January this year and Christies, the organisers, consider that the agreement was reached in record time. Hoteles Globales will take over the management of the "Farragut" on 1st July and, according to a company press release, will retain all the personnel currently employed at the Cala en Forcat hotel.
The new owner is a company established 20 years ago which has undergone a rapid major expansion. José Luis Carrillo, who presides over the group, also has other companies under his umbrella, such as Air Madrid.
Other establishments belonging to the company in Menorca are: Cala en Blanes (103 bedrooms); Los Delfines (92); Apartamentos Los Delfines (102); Cala Blanca (167); Cala en Bosc (169); Apartamentos Marina (89); Lord Nelson at Sant Tomàs (177) and the Apartamentos Lord Nelson (143) - a total of 1,042 bedrooms to which will now be added the 493 rooms of the "Farragut".
ASHOME, the Menorcan Hoteliers´ Association, views the acquisition of the Cala en Forcat hotel by a Mallorca-based company positively, chiefly as it is a group which invests in airlines thus strengthening the links between the two different aspects of the sector. The company´s sales network at the points of origin and destination complete the commercialistion of the package.
