C.M.W..MaóRepresentatives of the Balearic Government, the Island Council and the Department of the Environment are to meet in Madrid tomorrow to try to clear the way for the Son Blanc jetty to become a reality. The local government has promised to deliver documents required by the Coastal Department to speed up the process as much as possible. No representatives from Ciutadella Council will attend as it will basically be a technical meeting.
The appointment follows the announcement made last week by the Department of the Environment that the process had been halted, as further paperwork was required before a decision could be taken on the concession of the expanse of water needed for the jetty.
Although this announcement was made on the last day of the period allotted to the Department for a decision to be taken, the Minister, Cristina Narbona, wrote to the Balearic Department of Public Works, Houses and Transport requesting additional information on various subjects.
The Councillor for Labour, Cristóbal Huguet, visited Ciutadella on Saturday to study the Department of the Environment´s report. During a press conference he expressed his disapproval that the government department had left it until the last day to announce that the project had been paralysed and also that it was asking for documents not required by the Coastal Law. He stated that it was important at the meeting tomorrow "to show that what was good enough and sufficient for the Ministry to approve the enlargment of Port Adriano in Mallorca a fortnight ago should also be sufficient for Ciutadella".
Project´s budget approved
The Balearic Government has authorised the transfer of capital to the value of 61,637,869 euros to the public company Ports de les Illes Balears for the construction of Ciutadella´s exterior jetty.
This money will be distributed in yearly instalments up until 2011.
