As the EuroBijoux fair closed in Madrid on Sunday there was a mood of "moderate optimism" amongst most of the twenty Menorcan exhibitors.

The number of visitors, especially foreigners was more than double the previous year, 811 compared to 390, but the overall volume of sales will not be known for a few weeks as many buyers place their orders after returning home.

This year the Madrid fashion jewellery fair moved from the Palacio de Congresos to the IFEMA centre, a move viewed as positive by the majority of the exhibitors.

Another fair being transferred is the fashion jewellery and accessories fair, EuroBijoux, which is leaving Menorca after 38 years, due largely to buyers and exhibitors having difficulty in travelling to the island.

Despite efforts by the local and Balearic authorities to keep the fair on the island, SEBIME has decided to move it to Palma where it will open on 5th May in the Recinto Ferial (Exhibition Centre) and close on 8th.
