In response to criticism from local residents, Ports de les Illes Balears plan to create a further 25 base moorings in Fornells in the next few months to add to the current 50 public berths in the port. The new berths will be provided by converting existing moorings intended for vessels in transit but which are actually being used on a permanent basis.

This measure, which will not require a large investment nor infrastructure, will be a first step towards accommodating some of the 387 boats on the waiting list for a permanent mooring in Fornells.

Ports are also carrying out a study which will provide a further 25 moorings and are shortly to publish the conditions which will govern the production of a Plan for Fornells, Andratx and Portocolom which will lay down guidelines for the future development of these ports. In the case of Fornells, the plan will provide for moving the boat refuelling station to the entrance to the village, as well as resiting the present dry dock.

Within the next week or so, Ports de les Illes Balears are to install toilets and showers next to the breakwater.
