The Balearic Government has published in its official bulletin the conditions that will govern the adjudication of the project to adapt the exterior jetty at Ciutadella so that ships of up to 250 metres in length can berth there.

The announcement regarding the bidding for the contract sets a guide price of 123,900 euros for the project which, according to Ports de les Illes Balears, should not only consider ships of 250 metres but also other smaller vessels, an important aspect when deciding on the positioning of the "duques de alba" (devices that extend the effective mooring length of a jetty).

The aim is that both the East and West quays will be able to accommodate cruise liners of between 128 and 250 metres in length, which will necessitate extending the current berthing lengths of 116 and 146.93 metres. The project will also have to take into account the differing draughts of the vessels, which are 4.5 metres for boats of 128 metres and 7.5 metres for those of 250 metres, as well as displacement and various other technical requirements.

In addition to the items needed for mooring, each of the "duques de alba" will have to provide the services for lighting, water and firefighting that are necessary for a correct berthing operation.

The teams drafting the projects that will be presented will also have to include various complementary documents, such as a geotechnical study to determine the correct anchorage for the "duques de alba", an analysis of alternatives for their correct positioning and dimensions, a design for the services needed for them to be fully operational and an environmental document to decide whether or not the project will require an evaluation on its impact on the environment.
