Charity Players event for December
Menorca Charity Players have announced details of their next production. The Casino Mahonés will be the venue for a series of Theatre Suppers. A three course meal will be served, followed by a dramatic production. At a cost of 25 euros these will take place on 4th, 10th and 11th December. Friday 3rd December at 10 euros: entertainment without the meal. Tickets through usual outlets. More details at menorca.charity.players@gmail.com

Roundabout should increase safety
A busy junction is being made safer by the construction of a new roundabout where the Me-15 Mercadal-Fornells road joins the Me-7 Maó-Fornells road.
At a cost of 540,000 euros, the junction is expected to be modified by January.

Residents' discount put in the spotlight
The Minister for Public Works, José Blanco, has reiterated that the 50% discount for Spanish residents, who live outside the Peninsula, will be retained. Nevertheless, Balearic politicians are continuing to highlight the disproportionately high prices having to be paid by residents of the Balearic Islands.

The PSOE Deputy for the Balearics quoted the price per kilometre for a flight from Madrid to Jerez as 15 céntimos, compared to the 75 céntimos per kilometre for a flight of the same distance to the islands.

British visitors robbed in Maó portside bar
Police were called in the early hours to premises on the port in Maó where five young British tourists had reported the theft of a bag. The police apprehended a man and a woman, whose car was found to contain the stolen items.

Seaward wall of new harbour now complete
The 640 metre long jetty that will shelter Ciutadella's future outer harbour is now finished. The sixteenth, and last, of the huge concrete blocks was put in place last week. June 2011 is the scheduled time for the harbour's inauguration.

British tourist arrested for an indecent act
A British man of around fifty years old was arrested by local police in Maó on Thursday. Police had been called to a lingerie shop where he was masturbating in a fitting room. When detained he was wearing just a corset and white stockings.

A similar incident, involving the man, had occurred the previous day in another lingerie shop in Maó. On this occasion the man had fled before police could arrest him. He is now back in the UK.

Helicopter comes to rescue after cliff fall
An adult male was under observation in hospital, with multiple injuries, on Saturday after falling on the cliffs between Port d'Addaia and Mongofra. Whilst on a photographic mission he fell and became wedged between rocks. Using his mobile, he contacted friends who alerted the emergency services. The helicopter rescue was around midday.

Menorca Cricket Club Twenty/20 Cup
This competition has been cancelled. A mini tournament is planned for Tuesday 19th October and Wednesday 20th October. This will possibly be extended to the following day.

"The Faithless Wife"
Reference was made in last week's "English Pages" to the sale of the novel "The Faithless Wife". It was stated that if one wished to purchase more than five copies the price would be reduced to 7 euros per copy. In fact the full price of 10 euros per copy will still be charged.

Local fish promotion
On Saturday 17th October there will be a chance to sample local fish prepared by a number of restaurants in la Plaça de la Catedral in Ciutadella. The "degustacions" start at 1200 hrs.
As well as having the opportunity to sample fish that may not be familiar, visitors will also be able to watch demonstrations of show-cooking. To add to the occasion there will be music from the group Xalandri.

Mayor's satisfaction
Vicenç Tur, Mayor of Maó, visited Es Grau on Saturday morning in order to view the improvements made recently in the village.

During the last few months enlargement of the parking facility has resulted in there now being 220 places for cars and 120 for boats. In addition there have been improvements to the facilities for children's play and to the two sports fields. There are now changing rooms with adaptations for the physically handicapped.

Work will start soon on resurfacing the village's approach road.

Briton is top scorer
Janine Sandell was the top scorer with 20 points in a notable away victory for Valeriano Allés against the reining volleyball champions, Jamper Aguere, in Tenerife.
