The coast of Menorca is being spoilt by the abandonment of small boats and equipment associated with such craft. As well as the eyesore of decaying unwanted boats, shores in a variety of localities are being littered with old ropes, chains and buoys, plus other marine paraphernalia.

Such antisocial behaviour is spoiling the coastal environment and is prompting the Balearic Port Authority to take action.

A cleanup campaign has begun along the north shore of Maó harbour where 130 notices have been fixed to a variety of craft that have no authorization to be beached in their current locations.

The Port Authority's priority is to identify the owners of the abandoned and beached craft so that they can re-locate their craft to legal locations. If boats are not reclaimed they will be removed, stored and then put up for auction.

Earlier this year Es Grau and Es Canutells were targeted by the Port Authority as places that needed regulation of small craft.Nevertheless even now there are examples of wrecked, abandoned boats that can still be found at Es Grau.
