Car boot sales in Maó and Ciutadella

Two car boot sales are to be held in the next few weeks, one at each end of the island.The first to take place will be on Sunday 25th April, 1000-1300 hrs., in the patio of La Salle School in Maó, with profits from the pitch fees going to the school funds. Pitches, at 10 euros, can be reserved through Jules Martin at jules.menorca@live.com.

Age Concern will be holding their first car boot sale at the Ciutadella end of the island on Sunday, 16th May. This will take place in the car park just before the Maribel Apartments' swimming pool on the Avinguda de sa Platja, Cala Blanca from 1000-1300 hrs., with sellers setting up an hour before. Pitches, at 10 euros, can be reserved through Tom Eslick on 630 202 791 or 971 382 322. If successful, Age Concern hope to make it a regular event.


Three cricket matches against Sidcup XI

Due to teams cancelling, the Menorca Cricket Club matches this weekend and on Wednesday of next week will all be against Sidcup.

On Saturday and Sunday the matches at the Menorca Cricket Club ground in Biniparrell will start at 1230 hrs., with spectators more than welcome. On Wednesday 28th (and not Thursday 29th as printed in the fixtures list) the M.C.C. will play against Sidcup in a Twenty/20 match.

ViveMenorca move to third place in league

Thanks to the Menorcan basketball team's home win against Ourense, 84:67, on Friday and Burgos' defeat at the hands of León, ViveMenorca has moved up to third place in the Adecco Oro league.

If the local team can beat Palencia, currently thirteenth in the league, in an away match this Friday they will remain in third place and be in the play off for promotion to the top Spanish league and could thus return to the ACB one season after being demoted.


Valeriano Allés forces fifth and deciding game in semi-final

Having lost the first two legs of their semi-final play-off for the Copa SM La Reina against Universidad de Burgos 3-0 and 3-2, the Ciutadella women's volleyball team pulled back two legs against their rivals, 3-1 and 3-0, to force a fifth leg to decide which of the teams will meet Jamper Aguere in the final.

Three medals in karate for Menorcans

Menorcans won three medals in the National Junior Karate Championships held in Ciutadella which concluded on Sunday. Eliot Porté won a gold, the first ever won by a Menorcan, and Ángel Gómez and Jesús Triay both won silver medals in their respective categories.
