A 30-year old woman was assaulted a few minutes before midnight on Thursday as she was about to enter her home in Son Vilar following a family dinner.

The woman was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her round the waist and threw her to the ground, punching her several times in the face. The victim's cries for help were heard by neighbours who came to her aid causing the attacker to flee. The incident was reported to the police the next morning.

According to a relative, the young woman believes she could identify the attacker who is described as being between 20 and 30 years old, around 1.8 metres in height, well-built with receding short brown hair and a widow's peak. At the time of the assault the attacker was wearing a short-sleeved red T-shirt and dark jeans.

The State Government's Island Director, Javier Tejero, stated that they were "very worried about the situation" and that all means would be used to find the perpetrator. He added that it was not known whether the attacker was responsible for previous assaults, two of which occurred in the same area.
