The Partido Popular group in the Island Council is calling for the dismissal of Lázaro Criado, the Councillor for Tourism, for repeated failure to comply with agreements reached in the Council regarding the tourist sector and for his responsibility in the poor financial results in this area over the last three years.

One of the criticisms levied against Criado is the 'tourist bus project' in which a coach will promote Menorca to the British market for 35 days during January and February next year, at a cost to the Menorcan public of 6,000 euros per day. The spokesperson for the PP, Juana Francis Pons Vila, stated that, according to the Fundació Destí's website, the bus had been hired without advertising for 47,500 euros plus IVA. To this must be added the contract for the marketing and communication services of the company doing the publicity, a further 140,000 euros plus IVA.

The promotional bus will start its journey between 10th and 23rd January and over 35 days will visit 13 cities: London, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, Norwich, Cambridge and Cardiff.

According to the PP's reckoning, the total of around 200,000 euros over 35 days equates to 6,000 euros per day.
